FIRST BLOG – “What’s your inner truth?”

Woo!  Woo!  My first real blog!

Welcome readers,

Yeah, I am excited to get this thing up and running. I have so, so many places I want to go with this.

First, I think it would be best to create a mission and vision statement. (Check the about section: done!)

Now that that is done, let me introduce myself.  I’m Adam Parkhurst.  I’m nearly 28 and living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  I work for a bank and in my free time like to do anything from karaoke to board games to movies.  I love traveling when I get the opportunity and meeting new people.  I love coffee and enjoy going to the establishments that serve coffee.  This brews good conversations.  My drugs of choice are caffeine and philosophy.  I say “philosophy” loosely to describe any conversation that gets going with someone where you just… dive into it.  It’s when you get to that moment where you forget about worrying what to say next and it just starts flowing out naturally.  That’s called speaking from the heart.  Do you know what I’m talking about?  Yeah, that’s the good stuff.  Lots of times emotions get involved but good or bad, you always feel good afterward.

I never did much of that growing up.  I was a quiet, shy kid who kept to himself a lot.  My brain was always running at high speeds but the mouth was not.  Recently, as some of my friends can attest, I discovered how much I get out of writing.  That’s why I decided to start this blog.  It’s a way for me to let it out in a more organized fashion.  I never was a great storyteller face-to-face.  I kinda admire those who are.

As you might already be able to tell, I’m a big advocate for free thinking.  Like I’ve always been, I am always ready to listen to anything a person believes as long as they also have a REASON as to why they believe it.  I’m not so interested in making sure you have your FACTS STRAIGHT but I do want to know how you got to the conclusions you did.  See, I think that all people are inherently good.  The ones that turn out not so good, I believe, got there either from a series of unfortunate events that happened to them causing an irreversible or seemingly irreversible amount of emotional damage to where they have a ME vs. THE WORLD mentality or they constantly feed themselves negative thoughts.  Poison for the mind.  It’s like they tell themselves, “Well, I just gotta get mine.” or “You can’t trust nobody.” How sad is that if you truly believe those things?  It creates a lonely, paranoid and miserable life.  Those people need a lot of unconditional love to be shown to them if they’re ever to change.  Sadly, a lot of them will never get that but hope remains.

That’s EXACTLY why people are important and relationships matter.   PEOPLE are IMPORTANT.  YOU ARE IMPORTANT.  YOU MATTER.  Don’t ever think you have nothing to offer because you do.  If nothing else, our past experiences can help someone out who’s going through it for the first time.  It’s the people that isolate who get into trouble.  They let their thoughts spin round and round in their heads and never let them out.  How is someone to know what the truth is without a system of checks and balances?  You need to share that stuff with another person to see if you are right or if you’re “off base”.  I think we’re all more than capable of getting “off base”.  That’s dangerous.  History has shown us many figures who got “off base”.  I’m sure you can think of at least one dictator who had some pretty skewed lines of thinking and look what it caused.  That’s why keeping each other accountable is huge in that respect.

That’s why I’m writing this blog.  To keep from turning into a Super Villian like Lex Luther from Superman, haha.  Just kidding.  I’m not crazy but someday I could be if I never spoke out.  I think that’s a reasonable possibility for all of us.  Share.  Invite.  Trust.

It’s time to start writing from the heart….because only there is truth found.  Stay tuned!
